Library, 2025 Baxter St. The Loving Story is a story of love and the struggle for dignity set against a backdrop of historic anti-miscegenation sentiments in the U.S. Mildred and Richard Loving were arrested in July 1958, in Virginia, for violating a state law that banned marriage between people of different races... Dr. Robert Pratt, (UGA, History) will lead a discussion following the film. A native of Essex County, Virginia, Dr. Pratt grew up near the Lovings and frequently played with their children. This free film screening is part of the Created Equal film series, a partnership between the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UGA and the library. The series, originally a project of the National Endowment for Humanities, features four awardwinning documentaries exploring the American Civil Rights Movement.
