Miller Learning Center "Reading Outside the Canon: Some New Thoughts on Medicine in the Time of Galen," Vivian Nutton, a professor of the history of medicine and culture at the First Moscow State Medical School. Nutton studied classics at Cambridge University, before becoming a Fellow of Selwyn College, specializing in ancient history. In 1977, he moved to London where he taught the history of medicine to students at University College and the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine until his retirement in 2009. He has been a Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. Among his many honors, Nutton is a Fellow of the British Academy and a Member of the German Academy of Sciences. Nutton's publications have covered the history of medicine from the Greeks to the 17th century and their later interpreters. A reception will be held immediately following the presentation.
