Myers is the Class of 1960 Professor of Ethics and History (2019-2022) and Associate Professor of Civil War History at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, an award-winning teacher and author, and a recognized authority on American Civil War and military history. Professor Myers is the author or editor of three books: The Guerrilla Hunters: Irregular Conflicts during the American Civil War, the prize-winning Executing Daniel Bright: Race, Loyalty, and Guerrilla Violence in a Coastal Carolina Community, 1861-1865, and the critically-acclaimed Rebels Against the Confederacy: North Carolina’s Unionists.
