Dr. Lia Bascomb, Associate Professor in the Department of African American Studies, Georgia State University, will discuss her book In Plenty and in Time of Need: Popular Culture and the Remapping of Barbadian Identity (Rutgers U Press, 2019).

This talk will be presented remotely via Zoom, space will be limited.  Students who register and attend will receive a copy of the book in advance. A short presentation about the book will be followed by a Q and A session and general conversation.

Dr. Bascomb is an Associate Professor of African American Studies at Georgia State University.  She is trained as an interdisciplinary black studies scholar with emphases in diaspora theory, cultural theory, visual culture, performance studies, gender and sexuality, and literature. Her scholarly interests focus on representations and performances of nation, gender, and sexuality across the African diaspora with an emphasis on the Anglophone Caribbean.

This talk is part of a series on Gender, Race, and Slavery in the Atlantic World, presented by the History and Gender Workshop, and funded by a Faculty Research Seminar Grant from the University of Georgia’s Willson Center for Humanities and Arts.
