Fall 2022 TA Orientation (TAO) will be offered as a combination in-person kick-off event on Tuesday, August 17th, and a set of virtual training modules to be completed prior to the start of the semester. Our kick-off event will feature panels with experienced TAs, and various engaging conversations with teaching and learning experts from around campus.

This interdisciplinary orientation provides general preparation for graduate students with instructional responsibilities, including an overview of policies and procedures pertinent to the TA role, an introduction to effective teaching strategies and practices, and exposure to services and resources available across campus that offer support for individuals engaged in teaching and learning endeavors at UGA.

As per TA Policy, anyone holding an assistantship with defined teaching duties – including all teaching and laboratory assistants – must complete the CTL’s TA Orientation prior to or concurrent with their first TAship.

Participation in TA Orientation allows students to:

  • Become familiar with key policies and resources related to successful teaching and learning practice at UGA;
  • Learn how and what to prepare for their first few weeks in the classroom and/or laboratory environment;
  • Be introduced to the resources available within their departments and across campus that offer support for individuals engaged in teaching and learning endeavors at UGA.

TAO comes in two parts:

  1. August 17th, 2021: A 90-minute face-to-face Welcome event where you'll have the chance to meet peers and hear from experienced TAs (offered at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.).
  2. Due by August 27, 2021: A set of online training modules, required for every new TA at UGA.

Please complete this form to register for the Welcome event and to sign up for the online training modules (even if you are unable to attend the event!).

In partnership with other units on campus, the CTL maintains a list of all students who have successfully completed TA Orientation, and shares their records with Graduate Coordinators.

For questions about the orientation, please contact us via gradteach@uga.edu.
