Sunday, December 31 2023, 5pm Submit online CALL FOR PAPERS 2024 University of Georgia History Graduate Student Association Conference “Old South, New South, No South” The History Graduate Student Association at the University of Georgia will hold a conference at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Athens, GA on March 23-24, 2024. This is an opportunity for graduate students from around the country to present their work in a friendly environment and receive critical feedback from professors and peers alike. This year's conference theme is “Old South, New South, No South.” Proposal Guidelines We invite paper submissions that address the following questions: How has the U.S. South changed over time? What makes the South distinctive? We welcome papers that cover the American South as well as the Global South over time from the eighteenth century to the present. Possible topics could include plantation slavery, Civil War and Reconstruction, the New South, Jim Crow, environmental history, and the long Civil Rights Movement. We are also open to papers written with an interdisciplinary approach. The individual submissions should consist of a 300-word abstract, a paper title, the author’s contact information, and a one-page curriculum vitae or resume. Please list all audio-visual requirements as well. Complete papers should be approximately 10-12 pages in length. Each speaker will have twenty minutes to present.
