The Program: This intensive 3 credit Maymester program will introduce students to museum methods and practices using Atlanta’s museums as our classroom. Students will attend a three-day workshop on campus before spending a week in Atlanta visiting museums and historic sites. Site visits will be a combination of lecture and on-site study. Site visits will also include meetings with staff to discuss their work. Students will enroll in HIST 4024/6024 Topics in Museum Studies (Atlanta) (3 credits). This course will count as an elective for the Museum Studies Certificate program. Site visits vary from year-to-year. Past vists have included: the Atlanta History Center, he High Museum of Art, the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, Wren's Nest, the Georgia State Capitol Museum, Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Breman Museum, SCADFash, and the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking. Students must provide their own housing and transportation.
